Job Action Weekly.png

April 12, 2024

This morning, the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation notified school divisions of their decision to suspend their work-to-rule job action. The notice states:

“The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation is suspending the provincewide withdrawal of all voluntary professional responsibilities effective April 12, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. The Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee has indicated they have a renewed mandate and invited the Teachers’ Bargaining Committee to return to the bargaining table.”

As a result of the job action suspension, all supervision and extracurricular activities will resume as normal. Schools will communicate specific plans for any upcoming activities.

Please note: email notifications will only be sent to families and staff when the STF announces job action that will impact Chinook schools. Please check this Job Action Update page for the latest information.

Chinook School Division Procedures for STF Job Action

Full Day Strike by STF Members

Withdrawal of Extracurricular Activities by STF Members

Withdrawal of Noon-Hour Supervision by STF Members

Regular classes, transportation, and extracurricular activities will be cancelled for the whole day.

Students do not attend school.

Chinook schools will be closed to the public.
All extracurricular activities will be cancelled at Chinook schools.

This includes extracurricular activities scheduled before school, during lunch hour, after school and in the evening, as well as any field trips or travel outside of the school day.

Extracurricular includes sports, drama, music, band, science clubs, intramurals, rehearsals, student leadership activities, planning for graduation celebrations, book fairs, and other clubs and activities.

Plans are being put in place to ensure the safety of all students.

All Chinook schools will communicate their specific plans directly with their families and staff.

Each school may be impacted differently, depending on the availability of supervisors. School plans could range from a normal school day schedule to an adjusted school day schedule with an earlier dismissal.

Supervision may be provided by non-teaching staff and approved volunteers.

Schools may also encourage students to go home for lunch if they are able to, in order to reduce the level of supervision required.

Chinook School Division respects the bargaining process between the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation and the Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee as they work to negotiate a new collective agreement. The Chinook Board of Education and Division senior administration respect STF members' rights to engage in the processes that are involved in reaching a collective agreement and remain hopeful that a fair agreement will be reached.
