Student First Anti-Bullying Youth Forum

November 20, 2015

November 15 – 21 was proclaimed as Bullying Awareness Week in Saskatchewan by Education Minister Don Morgan. The theme of this year’s forum is Stand-Up to Bullying: Activating the Bystander. More than 9,000 Saskatchewan students in Grades 6 through 12 will be participating in the province’s largest ever Student First Anti-Bullying Youth Forum. This is the first year that students have been able to participate from their own school. 419 classes from 167 schools participated from across the province. 164 students from 14 classes participated from Chinook schools.

The forum kicked off on Tuesday, November 17 with a live broadcast from Regina’s Campbell Collegiate to schools across the province where students watched in real time. Throughout the remainder of the week, teachers led students through a series of activities about responsible online behaviour. On Thursday, November 19 a province-wide online chat focused on being respectful and supportive of each other online. Students were also encouraged to create a multimedia project to share their ideas about creating safe and caring schools and online communities.

Information about the forum and resources designed to help prevent bullying and cyber-bullying are available on the I Am Stronger website.
