Solar Eclipse on Monday, April 8.

April 07, 2024

Screenshot_20240407_172608_Chrome.jpgOn Monday, April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross over Mexico, the United States, and Canada. While the path of totality in Canada occurs in southern Ontario through Nova Scotia, a partial solar eclipse (41%) will be visible in Saskatchewan.

In Saskatchewan, the partial eclipse will be visible approximately between 11:40 am and 2:00 pm. Due to the risks of looking directly at the sun without proper eye protection during an eclipse, and since we cannot ensure the proper protection is being used appropriately:  Chinook schools will ensure that students are kept inside from 11:40 am to 2:00 pm (the time during which the partial solar eclipse may be visible in our area).

Schools will not schedule outdoor PE classes, recess, or activities for any students between 11:40 am and 2:00 pm on April 8.

Students will be reminded that it is not safe to look directly at the sun and be directed to not look at the solar eclipse.

Any outdoor activities scheduled between 11:40 am and 2:00 pm on Monday, April 8, will be rescheduled  or moved indoors.

During this partial solar eclipse on Monday, we will encourage all students to remain at school during the lunch break. Parents are asked to send lunch with their child.
