Update - Sask Govt PHO (Feb 10 2022).pdf*

*The provincial government has adjusted the removal of the mask mandate for school divisions to start one day earlier. Please note the following:

The Minister of Education has recently informed school divisions that the Public Health Order (PHO) with respect to Mandatory Isolation and Face Covering will now expire end of day Sunday, February 27, 2022. Starting February 28, all health orders will be rescinded.

This change from the provincial government's original announcement is being made to align with the return to school after the February break. Due to mandate changing to one day earlier, masks will be optional in Chinook schools starting on Monday, February 28. This is an update to the February 10 letter from Chinook School Division.

Chinook implements proof of COVID-19 vaccination or negative testing for staff

The Premier of Saskatchewan, Saskatchewan Health Authority, Saskatchewan Medical Association and provincial Medical Health Officers, along with the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation and Saskatchewan School Boards Association, have all encouraged school divisions in the province to develop administrative procedures for proof of COVID-19 vaccination or negative testing for staff. As responsible employers and citizens, Chinook School Division’s priority is to help keep employees, students and families safe as they work, learn and play in our schools and facilities.

Along with other school boards across the province, the Chinook Board of Education passed a motion for the development of a new Health and Safety - Vaccination and COVID-19 Testing Administrative Procedure, which is being implemented for all staff. Chinook employees will make a choice to either show proof of fully vaccinated status by November 5, 2021 or submit weekly negative test results starting on November 15, 2021.

Staff who choose to provide weekly negative COVID-19 test results will receive a supply of rapid antigen self-test kits from the school division. By December 1, 2021, the Board will review the number of tests that will be required and determine if they will extend the time period to cover the cost of the COVID-19 self-testing kits or if the cost will be the responsibility of the employee beyond December 31, 2021.

The proof of vaccination or negative test requirement will apply to all Chinook School Division employees, board members, and other individuals defined in Section 1 of the Administrative Procedure. This procedure does not apply to students or to individuals, including parents and caregivers, who visit the school infrequently for short periods of time.

As indicated in previous communications, our Return to School Plan will be released this week. The Chinook Board is currently working diligently to finalize a plan to ensure that the health, safety and wellness of students and staff remains a priority. We plan to release the details in the afternoon on Thursday, August 26th, and they will be posted on our social media channels and website.

Information on the distance learning option will follow the release of the plan as well. Families will have time to review the plan and make a choice for their children to register for distance learning or attend their local school.

The Fall 2021 Chinook Return to School Plan will be shared with families and staff the week of August 23. As local and provincial COVID-19 data have varied over the summer, we feel it is best to finalize plans based on the most current conditions.

In July, the provincial government lifted restrictive measures and public health officials stated that it is safe for schools to resume traditional in-class learning. When classes in Chinook schools begin as planned on September 2nd, we will follow provincial guidelines while continuing to protect the health and safety of students and staff, as schools transition back to pre-pandemic operations.

We are consulting with local public health officials and following their guidance to develop the plan, which will focus on continuing enhanced cleaning, improved ventilation and other general practices previously implemented in schools. We will also be prepared to increase protective measures as necessary to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 and will continue to follow the recommendations by the provincial government and SHA.
