Chinook School Division recently proposed a new 2013-2014 calendar option that was submitted for Ministry approval. The 2013-2014 calendar included modifications in holidays and school breaks in an effort to comply with the recent changes in the Education Act by the Government of Saskatchewan. For background please refer to Changes in 2013-2014 School Calendar in our News Archive.
Since that time, feedback has been received from stakeholders, including parents, Ministry of Education, MLAs and constituents. Upon further review and consultation, the Chinook School Division Board has identified that the calendar option previously submitted incorporated a significant amount of change for families during a time when other scheduling changes are already occurring.
As a result, the Board has made the decision to keep a more traditional calendar, with the February break remaining and a five-day weekend for the Easter holiday. It is the intention of the Board that this will accommodate a smoother transition for families.
The modified 2013-2014 calendar (PDF) has been submitted to the Ministry of Education for approval. We hope to have a final calendar by the end of April in an effort to assist with family schedules and holiday planning for the upcoming school year.
A very strategic and thorough process was followed for the development of the calendar options and we would like to acknowledge the significant work and valuable contributions of the Chinook Calendar Committee, comprised of teachers and support staff. All Chinook staff and School Community Councils had the opportunity to vote on the calendar options presented by the Committee and we would like to thank everyone for their participation.
The Board is interested in ongoing feedback on the calendar, which will be kept on file for future planning and consideration. Please send comments and questions to info@chinooksd.ca .
