2018-2019 School Calendar Vote

November 27, 2017

The Chinook Calendar Committee has developed two calendar options for the 2018-2019 school year. This year all Chinook employees and parent stakeholders may choose their preferred calendar for the 2018-2019 school year. Typically, we try to set our Division calendar early so families may plan in a proactive manner.

Committee Members:
Bob Vavra – Superintendent of Learning
Denise Toeckes – Principal, Butte Colony
Teresa Broberg – Bus Driver
Holly Franklin – CTA VP and Vice Principal, Shauavon Public School
Jonell Buss – Teacher, Sidney Street School
Pat McKenna – Office Manager, Fairview School
Kyle McIntyre – Deputy Director
Deb Reamer – SWAC Athletics Coordinator
Ruth Weiner – EA, SCCHS

Both calendar options will be posted online for parents and staff to vote. Voting is open to parents and staff November 27 at 3:00pm – December 1, 2017. Links are below.

The goal of this consultation process is to have a calendar recommended to the Chinook Board of Education shortly after this year’s Christmas break.

Key Points
  • Legislation requires students begin school following Labor Day. Our calendars have been developed with the change in mind.
  • Parents and Chinook staff will have the opportunity to state their preference through the online survey.
  • The chosen calendar will need to be reviewed and approved by the board in early January and then approved by the Ministry of Education.
  • One school admin day has been moved from the end of June to the beginning of the year to permit teachers more time in their classrooms prior to start up.
  • As in the past, schools will have the opportunity to work with their local school communities to determine specific student conference times and formats.
