Southwest Saskatchewan experienced wildfires, extreme wind and loss of power this week. Unfortunately, several of our students and staff members’ homes and families were threatened and they were forced to seek refuge in other communities. Tragically, there were also many who lost their homes and some who have loved ones in hospital, along with a precious life lost. Our hearts go out to all who are affected.
Thank you to everyone that has been supporting the communities in evacuation and recovery efforts, as well as firefighters, law enforcement, emergency personnel and volunteers for their integral role in keeping people safe and protecting homes, properties and our schools.
The Southwest is known for hard work and big hearts, and that was exhibited this week in a great time of need. We are truly grateful for the strong spirit of community cooperation, compassion and the resiliency of our people.
We want to acknowledge and thank our school principals for providing ongoing status updates and contacting their staff, families and bus drivers regarding school closures and re-openings. Thank you to school and division personnel for supporting our administrators and helping to get schools operating safely and ready for students to return.
Finally, thank you all for your patience and understanding as we navigated the events of the week. We will continue to update any changing status of school closures/openings if needed. Division supports will be made available to our staff, students and families where needed and we will do what we can to help as communities recover.
The Southwest will continue to be a great place to live, to go to school and to work. Let’s continue to take care of one another.
