The annual Chinook Music Week provides students and teachers across the division an opportunity to expand their musical education by bringing in first class performers, educators and clinicians. This year, Chinook Music Week runs from February 13-17 and will focus on breathing techniques specific to vocal and instrumental sound production with David Wilson, as well as Ukulele classes with local teacher and guitarist Michael Lyngstad.

Music has always been a part of Michael Lyngstad’s life. He grew up with music around the house and started guitar lessons at the age of 6. Since then, he has gone on to earn a Diploma in Jazz Guitar Performance from MacEwan University and degrees in Classical Guitar studies and Education from the University of Alberta. His career as a professional music teacher began in 1997 in St. Albert, Alberta. From 2005- 2012 he taught a number of private and group guitar classes through MacEwan University before returning to Swift Current. His teaching practice continues to this day through his work at his private studio, at Maverick School, and at the Lyric Theatre. Michael's teaching approach is informed by a combination the latest research into learning and his 20 years of experience as a guitar instructor. All of this experience has been brought into his teaching of the ukulele over the past year and he is excited to share his knowledge of this fun instrument.

Workshops with both of these highly qualified clinicians will take place at several schools including Fairview, ECS, Irwin, Central, SCCHS, Gull Lake, Maple Creek, Frontier and other rural schools in the division. Chinook Music Week promises to be yet another exciting opportunity for our students and teachers!
