You may be aware that the Government of Saskatchewan is considering changes in education, including amalgamating school divisions and replacing our locally elected school boards with government appointed boards.
The Chinook Board of Education is concerned about these possible changes and the impact on our communities and schools. They would result in a significant loss of time and resources, and the focus will move to operational matters. This will cause a major disruption of student success and the momentum of the Education Sector Strategic Plan (ESSP). We only recently realized optimal and full services since the last amalgamation 10 years ago.
Locally elected boards are the grassroots voice in education that provide a connection and accountability with the school community. The Board of Education represents you – our school communities – and ensures that rural education has a voice and all children receive the resources and supports they need to learn and thrive.
Let’s celebrate the great work we have done in our classrooms and keep the focus on students first!
