Maverick is fortunate to receive an annual nutrition grant from Chinook that allows the school to provide a hot lunch on Wednesdays, a hot breakfast on Friday mornings and basic food staples for breakfast and snack preparation on an ongoing basis. Students participate in meal planning, grocery shopping, food preparation and kitchen clean up. As some of our students survive pay-cheque to pay-cheque, the availability of healthy food is essential to meet basic survival needs that support learning. Donations from school staff, Maverick families, community organizations and businesses assist in rounding out the nutrition program.
