Edmonton Police Service have confirmed that the high-risk sex offender Michael Stanley has been located in the U.S. As always Chinook schools will continue to keep student safety at the forefront, but at this time the heightened alert measures will be relaxed.
International Walk to School Day "iwalk" on October 9 - postponed for Chinook
In light of the increased supervision that we have had to temporarily implement at our schools, we have made the decision to postpone the International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 9 for the schools that had planned to participate. If your child does walk to school or to their bus pick-up, please exercise age appropriate safety measures such as walking with your child and older children walking in groups. The postponed date for the International Walk to School Day will be announced in the near future. Please note that only some schools were involved in the iwalk Day.

The situation is still status quo, as the RCMP have not received any information suggesting that Michael Stanley is in or near our communities. As a safety measure, all Chinook schools will continue heightened awareness and extra supervision until this individual is located. Specific schools will be notified immediately if he is reported to be in a particular area, and we will provide updates to all schools as needed.
RCMP will continue increasing police patrols around the schools until this individual is located. Anyone that observes an individual matching Michael Stanley's description is asked to call their local RCMP or 9-1-1.
Chinook School Division has been in contact with and taking direction from the RCMP in the matter regarding Michael Sean Stanley, a high risk sex offender that was recently reported in the news as sighted in west-central Saskatchewan. At this time, the RCMP indicated that the recent sightings have not been confirmed. We are communicating with all Chinook schools, which are on a heightened awareness as a precautionary measure and are being extra vigilant in watching the children.
We have put increased precautions and supervision in place at Leader Composite School, as well as Burstall and Fox Valley schools, due to an initial report of this individual being sighted in the Kindersley area on Thursday. Since that time, the RCMP has not been able to substantiate anything and this has been passed on to the schools.
Chinook has ongoing communication with the RCMP and will inform families if we are advised to alert any of our schools in southwest Saskatchewan. We want to reassure our school communities that we will promptly put measures in place as necessary, based on information and advice from the RCMP.
