Chinook Introduces New Trustees at Organizational Meeting

June 04, 2014

Chinook School Division held their annual Organizational Meeting and Elections on November 5, 2012, with new Trustees introduced for 3 Subdivisions: Elaine Anderson, elected to Subdivision 6 - Shaunavon, Eastend, Frontier; Shane Andrus, elected to Subdivision 1 - Leader, Burstall, Fox Valley; and Shauna Wright, acclaimed to Subdivision 7 - Vanguard, Ponteix, Val Marie.

Elaine Anderson has lived in southwest Saskatchewan for most of her life; however, she was away to attend university in B.C. and obtain her law degree from the University of Alberta. She and her husband have three school-age children and operate a small business on their farm near Frontier. Elaine is eager to represent the communities of Shaunavon, Eastend and Frontier, "I believe education is a determinant of success. Therefore, it is my goal to enable our students to succeed in education." Elaine enjoys being involved in the community and has been a member of a number of local organizations; most recently serving as a board member with the Cypress Regional Health Authority.

Raised on the prairies, Dr. Shane Andrus currently resides in Burstall with his wife. He possesses Bachelor of Arts, Masters and Doctoral degrees, and has taught at Medicine Hat College. Shane is a pastor of a rural congregation and is in private practice as a clinical counsellor. Shane is looking forward to serving on the Chinook Board, "I believe in creating an environment that fosters four core actions: consulting, creating, changing and contributing. Public education requires the people to be consulted in the process of developing good governance policy, and School Board members contribute to this by representing their rural communities." Extensively involved in the community, Shane has organized and promoted community and regional events in Burstall, was Chair of the Burstall & District Fall Fair for two terms, and a member of the Leader & District Ministerial Association.

Shauna Wright grew up on a farm in Manitoba just north of Brandon and attended University of Victoria on a volleyball scholarship. After travelling to other countries and living in California and Okotoks, AB, she relocated to Vanguard in 2010 where her son attends grade 7. Shauna works at the Vanguard SGI office and instructs first aid around the southwest. Shauna is excited to be the new Trustee representing Subdivision 7, "It is my belief that the rural communities and their schools are a huge part of Saskatchewan's culture. I would like to not only help Chinook School Division maintain their high quality standards of employment and education, but constantly strive to improve and grow." Shauna is very active in the community, she is a volunteer fire fighter/first responder with the Vanguard Fire Department, a member of the Recreation Board, and coaches the junior boys volleyball team.

It was also announced that Randy Beler and Larry Caswell are both re-elected and will continue as Chair and Vice Chair respectively for the 2012-2013 term. Randy Beler is a trustee for the City of Swift Current. A Board member since Chinook School Division was formed in June 2005, he was elected Chair in October 2009. Larry Caswell represents Subdivision #2 which includes Abbey, Cabri, Hazlet, Stewart Valley and Success. He was elected as a Board member when Chinook was formed in June 2005 and he will be serving his 3rd year as Vice Chair.
