Tender Approved for New Joint School

June 04, 2014

Holy Trinity Catholic School Division and Chinook School Division received notice from the Ministry of Education that the successful tender by Westridge Construction Ltd. has been officially approved. Site preparation is well under way and it is expected that the general contractor will be on site within the next few weeks.

École Centennial School, a dual track French Immersion and English school, and All Saints Catholic School will reside in a facility with a unique integrative and modern design that will include shared space. The schools will be built in Swift Current's Saskatchewan Valley subdivision, located north of the Cypress Regional Hospital, as part of the community's Integrated Facility project, in partnership with the City of Swift Current and Cypress Health Region.

"100 years ago in 1912 construction began on our first school, and now Holy Trinity is pleased to be building such a unique school with Chinook." Celeste York, Director of Education of Holy Trinity School Division, said, "Our students will enjoy a close connection with École Centennial School through shared learning, resources and programming. We will learn from each other while maintaining each of our distinctive identities. We are building a vision unlike any other, and will remain true to the commitment to our children."

Liam Choo-Foo, Director of Education for Chinook School Division, is happy to see the project continuing to move forward, "This is a landmark project for the province that is unprecedented. We are sharing space with All Saints Catholic School that is high cost, but often under-utilized, such as Practical and Applied Arts labs, band rooms and resource centres. This kind of cooperation and teamwork with Holy Trinity will be a focus going forward and we are eager to see the concept of an integrated learning environment become a reality."

A key benchmark has just been passed with the Ministerial approval to award the successful tender for the project to Westridge, which means the process for this project continues to remain on track and on time. The involvement of the larger community in planning this project is evident in the shared bussing, on-site daycare, future links and programming opportunities with the existing hospital, proposed long term care facility and city/community organization plans for arts and recreation.

The architects for each school division, AODBT and Stantec, have been working as a team on this project. The two firms have been planning and developing the design together from the beginning. The sod turning ceremony is set to take place on Thursday, October 18, 2012.
