Hold and Secure at Swift Current Comprehensive High School and O.M. Irwin School
In the morning of Thursday, October 21, 2021, a message was shared with Swift Current Comprehensive High School administration that caused concern and as a precaution they immediately contacted the RCMP. Administration and staff at SCCHS then followed school safety procedures according to the school’s Emergency Management plan.
SCCHS went into “Hold and Secure”, which means the outside doors are locked and students and staff remain in the building. Due to the proximity of the schools, O.M. Irwin School also went into Hold and Secure. After a short period of time, the RCMP contacted the schools to give the all clear and assured that students and staff remained safe. A message was then sent directly to parents/caregivers, informing them of the Hold and Secure and assuring that all students and staff are safe.
Local RCMP officers attended the area to ensure public safety. According to the RCMP, officers located an individual at a different location and they were taken into custody. The RCMP has also shared a release with the media.
We are unable to share details and no further statement will be made by Chinook School Division.
Student and staff safety is of paramount concern for Chinook School Division. As part of the Safe and Caring Schools priority, each school develops an Emergency Management Plan in collaboration with community partners, including the RCMP and local fire departments.
