The Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association (SHSAA) is pleased to announce that Honourable Gordon Wyant, Minister of Education in the Province of Saskatchewan, has proclaimed October 6 – 12, 2019 as 'School Sport Week' in Saskatchewan. “The proclamation of School Sport Week in Saskatchewan provides an opportunity to celebrate the important contributions that high school athletics have on the development of Saskatchewan's students.” said Education Minister Gordon Wyant. "Involvement of athletics provides opportunities for students to achieve excellence in sport and fosters a greater understanding of the importance of community involvement. The Government of Saskatchewan recognizes the important work and longstanding commitment of the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association. Thank you for your continued efforts to develop the province’s youth through sport.”

Schools are encouraged to set aside time during the week to acknowledge the Coaches, Officials, Student Athletes, and Supporters who contribute to the success of High School Sport in their community. An important aspect is to recognize that High School Sport is an extension of the classroom and provides an opportunity for developing citizenship skills and contributes to the education of leadership, teamwork, healthy lifestyles, motor skills, sportsmanship, ethics, and integrity.
