Chinook Trustee Profile: Gwen Humphrey

Chinook School Division is featuring profiles on our Board members throughout the 2018-2019 school year. We gave them a series of questions to answer so our families and communities can get to know them a little better...

This month's profile is GWEN HUMPHREY


Gwen is the Trustee for Subdivision 6, which includes all schools in Shaunavon, Eastend, and Frontier as well as Hutterian schools in the area. Gwen was elected by acclamation in the October 2018 by-election, which makes her Chinook’s newest Board member.  

1. Why did you become a trustee?
To maintain and/or increase a higher level of education for our rural schools.

2. What do you feel you bring to the Board table? 
I have several years of experience as an accredited board member and a passion to keep our community thriving.

3. What kinds of things does a board of education do? 
Set policy and strategic plan for today and into the future to secure the needs of our children and youth.

4. What is your most memorable school event or activity you have been a part of?
Family days - where the proud parents, grandparents, aunts & uncles can come and preview some the projects that child has been working on, and just see that environment where they get their education all the while getting acquainted with the teachers that mold our children.

5. What do you feel is one of the most important issues facing the Education sector today?
The financial aspect to maintain that level of education.

6. What is your most heart-warming and/or funniest moment in your time as a trustee?  
The warm, welcoming feeling one gets as a first-time trustee, along with the rewards of being able to set a positive direction for our children. Everyone should give it a try!!

7. What do you want people to know about being a trustee? 
It is a challenging yet rewarding experience, and the knowing that our children are getting the best education available is in itself total value.

8. What are you looking forward to in regards to the future of the Education sector?
That our mission, vision and values will be maintained so that the youth will all become knowledgeable, skilled responsible citizens.
