Chinook Submits Plan for Education Infrastructure Funding

The Chinook School Division has submitted their five year plan (B-5) for Facility Project Funding to the Ministry of Education. With an estimated cost of $6.376m, priorities have been set out within the five year plan for upgrading, replacements and construction in schools across Chinook.

Chinook has a very comprehensive facility assessment and maintenance process that identifies and prioritizes needs within school and non school facilities. This submission arises from that process, and will assist the Ministry of Education in their planning to request funds for the purpose of financially supporting priorities identified by Chinook.

For 2011-2012, funding has been requested for seventeen projects. Roof Replacement Projects totaling $1.9 million at 8 schools are a top priority. Other requests totaling $3.04 million include Boiler Replacements, Modular Classrooms, Health and Safety Upgrades and support for Demolition Projects. In addition to the $4.94 million requested to support projects in 2011-2012, another $1.24 million is being projected for costs associated with various improvement projects for the ensuing 4 years.

The B-5 facility funding application is required annually by the Ministry of Education. To support this request, Chinook submits more detailed B-1 funding applications on individual projects in conjunction with the B-5. The B-1 funding applications are evaluated by the Ministry of Education with an expected response timeframe in the early spring of 2012.
